the pets
Doof Mom is also the mother of three dogs and three cats.
The Dogs:
Mose: Adopted from the county Animal Control in November 2008 when he was just six weeks old. Doof Mom had the wacky idea that the kids should get to experience a puppy of their own. Uh-huh. Great plan. According to the liars at Animal Control, he will be a small dog. I was advised he is a Cocker Spaniel mix. Uh-huh. He’s currently four months old and 20 pounds. His paws are now the size of the palms of my hands. Small dog, my ass. When he’s not beating up Doodles (see below), he’s chewing everything that’s not his toys and having “accidents” in the house for me to clean up.
Doodles: She is what appears to be a purebred Chihuahua. She found us, showing up on our doorstep, shivering and without a collar. I canvassed the neighborhood. I made posters. I ran a found ad. She’s been with us for about a year and a half. The vet thinks she’s about 3 years old. She is no longer scared of the Big D, so I think we’ve made progress. We love her.
Muff: The newest addition. According to her prior owner, she is purebred Maltese. She came to us when her previous owner could no longer care for her (due to a foreclosure) and she was bound for the pound. She came to us looking like an old yarn mop, full of matts and filthy. She has wormed her way into our house & hearts.
The Cats:
SallyCat: Medium hair black and white fat cat. She is lazy, uncoordinated (I’ve never seen another cat fall off the roof!) and loving. She is mild mannered and wouldn’t dream of scratching or fighting back.
Fossa: Siamese mix with fascinating markings — her face is half brown and half tan. She believes she is a friggin’ princess who is waaay too good for our family and shows it by refusing to purr. Ever. Or let us pet her. Ever.
Maximus Prime: He’s a rough, tough alley cat, with a soft side. He’s the most affectionate of the bunch, loving attention and being with his people. Because he owns us. Not vice versa.
